Willie Jones and the Royal Jokers
A Tribute to the Drifters
willie jones and the royal jokers, a tribute to the drifters, empire entertainment, legends live
The Royal Jokers, led by the enigmatic Detroit legend, Willie Jones, first recorded as a doowop group for Atco Records as far back as 1955. Later in the late 1950s, also recording for Dawn and Hi-Q. In the 1960s they recorded for Metro, Keldon, Big Top, Fortune, and then for Ed Wingate's legendary Golden World company. "Love Game (From A To Z)" was their legendary Northern Soul smash, on the Wingate label, and I remember how, in 1972, people would literally run onto the Blackpool Mecca dancefloor when the opening bars of the song started.
